Frequently Asked Questions
What is CERT?
CERT stands for Community Emergency Response Team. It's a program that trains volunteers in basic disaster response skills such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.
How do I become a CERT volunteer?
Simply fill out our volunteer application form. Once approved, you'll attend an orientation and complete the CERT basic training course.
Is CERT training free?
Yes! CERT training is provided at no cost to volunteers. The training is typically offered through local fire departments, emergency management agencies, or community organizations.
What is the time commitment?
The basic CERT training is typically 20 hours, spread over several sessions. After training, volunteers participate based on their availability, whether that's for drills, community events, or emergency responses.
